Dental Exams and X-Rays
Alongside routine cleanings, twice-yearly dental exams are also needed to maintain the health of your gums and teeth. At this frequency, a dental exam can help catch most dental issues while they are in their infancy. This can lead to cutting costs, saving time, and reducing discomfort, compared to dealing with more substantial treatment plans and further developed issues.
How it's done:
After your cleaning, Dr. Flynn-Nyktas will inspect your mouth using mirrors, high-intensity lighting, and other dental hand tools. She will be looking for instances of decay or cracks, and will also perform and review other important information with you, such as:
- Medical history
- Examination of tooth decay
- Oral cancer screening
- Gum disease evaluation
- Examination of existing restorations
Dr. Flynn-Nyktas will also take diagnostic x-rays at this time to reveal any hidden problems in the mouth, especially below the gum line. Bitewing x-rays are usually taken once a year and a full mouth set of x-rays are taken every 3-5 years depending on your dental health assessment.
