Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are appliances that help fill the gap caused by a missing tooth or missing teeth. Gaps in the teeth can be potentially dangerous to oral health, resulting in shifting of the rest of the teeth. Chewing and speaking can also become more difficult or painful with missing teeth. Dental bridges can help alleviate all of these issues by utilizing the surrounding two teeth to hold a false tooth in place, where the gap is. Porcelain crowns are usually placed on the "anchor" teeth, and the false tooth, known as a "pontic," is fused between them.

How it's done:

Two visits to Dr. Flynn-Nyktas' Summit NJ dental office are usually required to place a dental bridge. At the first appointment, the anchor teeth will be filed down so that they can have a crown fit over them. Impressions will then be taken of the teeth to send to the lab to prepare the bridge and the crowns. Dr. Flynn-Nyktas will fit you with a temporary bridge to protect your smile in-between visits.

At your second visit, the temporary bridge will be removed and the final bridge appliance from the lab will be fitted and adjusted accordingly. Multiple visits may be needed to check and adjust the fit.
